Design Team for Challenge #14
Hello and welcome to my stop on the Craft Hoarders Anonymous blog hop. Crafters of every stripe are button hoarders! Buttons are pretty, inexpensive, and extremely versatile. If you are a card maker, quilter, layout artist, or anything in between, you probably have a button hoard! Buttons come in many sizes, styles, shapes, and colors, plus they are easy to store...usually in cute containers! Pull out those bins of buttons and use some of them for your challenge project! You can participate in the Craft Hoarders Challenge and win a prize from the blog sponsor... Altered Pages!
I am proud to be a member of the Altered Pages design team. My project today features gold shank buttons and one of the lovely ladies on the Feeling Mysterious collage sheet from Altered Pages. I enlarged the photo to 4x6 to fit the canvas and printed it in sepia tones instead of the standard black and white.
I began by spreading a layer of Vintage Photo Creative Medium on a 5x7 canvas board with a craft sponge. After tearing the edges all around the photo it was glued to the canvas with gel medium. Once it was dry two more layers of the Creative Medium were sponged onto the canvas and photo to deepen the golden color. Brown acrylic paint was added to the outer borders to pull it all together.
I found a button cover in my stash of gold buttons that goes so well with the headpiece this lovely lady is wearing that I knew it had to be included on the project. It looked like a mini picture frame so that's what I did with it. I found a small collage image on the Beauty in Red sheet and after it was coated with Creative Medium it was cut down to fit the frame. Then came the fun of adding the buttons! I was very lucky to have my husband cut the shanks off for me before the start of my project.
