Witch's Boot

Fall is quickly approaching and Halloween will be here before you know it.  My project today is a wooden boot place-card holder by Foundations Decor.  Altered Pages sells several different wooden pieces you can decorate and they are all so much fun!

This little boot could also easily have been an elf-boot for Christmas, but thanks to the beautiful temperatures here in Michigan right now I'm really in an autumn mood.

I chose to make an orange boot for the holiday and selected Dixie Bell's terra cotta chalk paint.  The matte finish of the chalk paint is exactly what I was looking for.

The paint went over the untreated wood beautifully.  Just let it dry completely and you're ready to go on with the decorations.

Altered Pages has a lot of really great Halloween collages.  I looked for collage images that had smaller pictures that would fit on this 3"x 3" boot.

I used the same witch on both the left and right sides of the boot, but made slight changes on each side.  The front and back were decorated, too.  Each of the pictures was cut out and glued in place. The steam coming out of the witches cauldrons was enhanced with Stickles glitter glue.

A slightly smaller witch and black cat were added to the front of the boot, with a little cut out broom laying across the curled toes.

This saying was part of the same picture as the witch on the side of the boot, I just cut it up to allow it to fit.

I also used a collage image with a cat sitting on a pumpkin because there was enough room to write a name for the place-card holder. The image is backed on black paper to help keep it from bending.  A rick-rack patterned Bazzill border was glued to the top of the boot just for more decoration.
