Halloween ATCs

I recently went on my annual craft getaway weekend with my cousin.  We go to the Scrapbook Lodge every year to enjoy non-stop crafting and pampering.  We had a lot of fun!!  I had a couple of projects marked as have-to-dos and I am proud to say they were both done by Saturday afternoon!  Then it was time to play.  I got out some pre-cut ATC (Artist Trading Card) chipboard and stamps from both Altered Pages and Sin City Stamps.  The two companies are partnered in August and my second project this month is Halloween themed!  Today I am sharing the six ATCs I made with these stamps.

Two stamp sets from Altered Pages and a few stamps from Sin City were used to create the designs above.  Most of these are masked, with the exception of the winged gargoyle.  In that case, this head and body were stamped on a piece of card stock, trimmed and glued on.

I have provided a list at the bottom of the post for you.  Most of these have a combination of inks ranging from Sharpies to StazOn.  There aren't any dimensional embellishments on these while I decide if they will stand alone or be used to create greeting cards.

Hello and welcome to my stop on the Craft Hoarders Anonymous blog hop.  Crafters of every stripe are button hoarders! Buttons are pretty, inexpensive, and extremely versatile. If you are a card maker, quilter, layout artist, or anything in between, you probably have a button hoard! Buttons come in many sizes, styles, shapes, and colors, plus they are easy to store...usually in cute containers! Pull out those bins of buttons and use some of them for your challenge project!  You can participate in the Craft Hoarders Challenge and win a prize from the blog sponsor... Altered Pages!

I am proud to be a member of the Altered Pages design team.  My project today features gold shank buttons and one of the lovely ladies on the Feeling Mysterious collage sheet from Altered Pages.  I enlarged the photo to 4x6 to fit the canvas and printed it in sepia tones instead of the standard black and white.

I began by spreading a layer of Vintage Photo Creative Medium on a 5x7 canvas board with a craft sponge.  After tearing the edges all around the photo it was glued to the canvas with gel medium.  Once it was dry two more layers of the Creative Medium were sponged onto the canvas and photo to deepen the golden color.  Brown acrylic paint was added to the outer borders to pull it all together.

I found a button cover in my stash of gold buttons that goes so well with the headpiece this lovely lady is wearing that I knew it had to be included on the project.  It looked like a mini picture frame so that's what I did with it.  I found a small collage image on the Beauty in Red sheet and after it was coated with Creative Medium it was cut down to fit the frame.  Then came the fun of adding the buttons!  I was very lucky to have my husband cut the shanks off for me before the start of my project.

The buttons give this canvas just the right amount of shine to really enhance the photo.  I love how it turned out and I hope you like it, too!  Below is a list with links for the rest of the hops along the way and see all the wonderful ideas we have for how you can use your own button hoard!

Fairy Meadow canvas

Altered Pages and Sin City Stamps are partnering in August 2014.  My first project this month is a chipboard fairy mushroom house

This was originally intended to be an album but my vision for it was a little different.  I started by coating each piece with gesso and then pink acrylic paint.  The topper is cut out from the Glitz Color Me Happy paper stack.  Random circles on the paper were highlighted with glitter glue.

Splotches of distress paint were chosen to match the colors of the patterned paper, then cut out and glued to the back of the mushroom with the punch outs.  Diamond Stickles glitter glue was added to give the dots sparkle.

Green distress paint was used on a 12x12 canvas to provide the grassy field.  After these two colors, a layer of metallic green acrylic paint was painted over the top to give it a mild shine.  The solid mushroom chipboard piece, Bazzill paper leaves and flowers were glued directly to the canvas.  Blades of grass were painted onto each of the mushroom pieces using the metallic paint.  Some of the flowers started white and were inked to become yellow, pink, and orange.  Dew Drops were added for flower centers.

This cute little fairy from Sin City Stamps was colored and sprayed with Sparkle Shimmer Spritz.  Once she was fussy cut, the edges were darkened with a black marker and the main vein on each wing was highlighted with glitter glue.  She was attached to the mushroom piece using foam squares

The mushroom with the punch-outs was  attached using a double layer of foam squares so that it would stand out taller than the flowers.

Thanks for stopping by!  If you have a minute, drop me a note in the comment section to say hello and let me know you were here.  See you next time.

A little studio play time

I wasn't planning on a post today, but I made this little canvas last night and I am proud of the way it turned out.  I sat down to play and this is the result...

Scan shows detail but cuts down on the shine

A couple of months ago I coated this 5x7 canvas board with Spiced Chai StazOn ink.  It's a beautiful brown ink and is probably my favorite color to work with right now.  Well, I was impatient and decided to heat set the ink instead of waiting (and waiting) for it to dry naturally.  The strangest thing happened...the ink and gesso on the canvas interacted and it turned a dark olive green!  Since that wasn't the color I wanted at the time, I set the canvas aside.

When I rediscovered it on my table I decided it was time to play.  I added molding paste through a stencil with a pattern of tiny circles.  The paste absorbed the green and gave the surface a nice mottled finish.  Then I sprayed Bronze irRESISTible coating in places.  Bronze Colorbox and Dark Brown Colorbox Chalk inks were sponged heavily around the outside edges and lightly in the center.

The papers are from Altered Pages.  The cream sunflowers and clock were in their "natural" color kit.  Memento markers in Pistachio and Rich Espresso were used to highlight spots.  I punched a flower out of a solid cream card stock from the same kit and stamped some French text over the top.  The same text is stamped directly on the canvas in a couple of places.  The color sunflower and bumble bee (retired) are from collage sheets.  The edges of the bee were colored with the Pistachio marker.

I unraveled a piece of raffia rope and added both bronze inks to it on the folds and the chalk ink on the edges.  Chocolate Dew Drops and a key embellishment finished off the piece.  I hope you like it!

Until next time...Happy Crafting!

Here's a picture from the camera which shows the high gloss on the project.
