New job in a new office requires new art!

Greetings friends,
Today I have a project that I did just for me.  It's the largest canvas I've made on my own and I'm so happy with how it turned out!  I started with a blank 18" square canvas and turned it in to this...

Here's how.

Check out How to Make a Colorful Canvas by Robin Horasanian on Snapguide.

I hope you like it.  Now, what's next??!  LOL

Until next time - Happy crafting!!

ICAD Week One

So, it's the end of the first week of the Index-Card-A-Day challenge and I am proud of myself for completing one card each day!  I created most of these on my lunch hour sitting in my car with the windows down and the radio on.  I have an on-the-go art kit in my car just for this challenge.  It's a nice relaxing break in the middle of the day.  The photo I shared of my on-the-go kit last week is kept in my purse.  I expanded it a little bit for the car.  I'll try to get a photo of it this week for you.

I'm working on some areas of my art that I am less comfortable with, such as drawing my own pictures and lettering.  I am so used to rubber stamping that I haven't spent a lot of time doing things by hand.  I chose to follow the suggested theme daily prompts.  There is an overall weekly prompt as well, but I used mostly my own writing instead of cutting them out of magazines, etc.

Week One was cut out phrases, etc.

I also had a road trip this weekend.  I went to the annual warehouse sale at US Art Quest / Art Papers Online.  So much goodness in one place!!  There was an entire room of sale items and full-priced items were 25% off.  Super fun to wander the aisles and see all the wonderful art supplies and gorgeous papers.  Here is just a sampling of what I picked up...
Over 50 sheets of 2' x 4' paper
Art Supplies on top of my big box of paper!
Perfect Paper Adhesive, 101 Heavy Molding Paste, Matte Finish spray
Mica flakes and hand made paper packs
Rubber stamps (new and used), Mica tiles, wire and an awesome metal tin with see-through lid
Thanks for stopping by!  Until next time, have a wonderful week and Happy Crafting!!

Howdy there!

Hi everyone.  I’ve got a cowboy card to share with you.  I love cowboys.  I have many stamps, papers & embellishments in the western theme and I make cards with them all the time.  I’m not sure where this love comes from since I’m a city girl through and through!

When I saw the Old West collage at Altered Pages I just fell in love with this image!  A lot of times I print my own images on the inkjet printer and it is just fine, but I knew I was going to cover this one in glue from the moment I saw it!  So, I needed this image printed on a laser printer.  If you don't have access to one then I suggest you order it directly from Altered Pages.  The images are laser printed on quality card stock and you will have no fear of them smearing when you use liquid mediums.
I left the image its original rectangle shape because I didn’t want to lose any of that beautiful landscape.  With a fine paint brush, I put US Art Quest Perfect Paper Adhesive (PPA) matte everywhere except the horse and rider.  I had to work quickly because it was a very light coating.  Then I sprinkled fairy dust glitter over the image and shook off the excess.

Card stock for the card & two panels were chosen in colors to accent the picture.  The card itself and photo panel are gold textured card stock.  The large panel is confetti burnt sienna.  That just means it has small flecks of other colors running through it.  I used a Darice embossing folder to give the brown panel some texture and used Colorbox Peacock to give it a little more dimension.  I chose the peacock color because it matches the sky.

The dark brown mini-edge border from Bazzill was laced with yellow craft string, which was glued to the back side at each end.  The entire edge was glued to the card at the bottom of the panel.  After that was dry I added the cowboy image centered vertically between the top edge of the panel and the top of the brown strip.  He is adhered with foam squares.

That left me plenty of room for a sentiment along the open edge.  I have no idea yet who is getting this card (or why) so I wanted a generic saying.  Using the same gold paper as the card, I deckle cut 1” squares and then touched them up with Colorbox Burnt Sienna and Dark Brown inks.  The letters were also stamped in the brown ink.  H-W-Y are glued down and O-D are adhered with foam squares.

Normally, I try to keep the girly embellishments off my masculine cards.  But these are not feminine little flowers…they’re brown not pink!!  The wonderful little flowers are from Michael’s dollar bin last summer.  I rubbed them with a couple of Colorbox cat’s eye pads and then glued them to the bottom corner.

I can’t believe I made a masculine card with glitter and flowers!  Who would have thought??

Don't forget to see this one and other projects over at the Altered Pages Artsociates blog!

Mail Art - an all-in-one card

Hello and welcome to my first post as part of the Altered Pages design team!  I appreciate the opportunity to share my art with you!  This month, Altered Pages is teaming up with Unruly Paper Arts, which is a BlogZine with wonderful art, and Leaky Shed Studio products.  Their theme this month is Mail Art and Moos.  I had never heard of a MOO before.  We’ll get back to that.  First, let’s see my mail art project!

The Unruly Paper Arts April issue features an RAQ (ReaderArt Quest) challenge for their readers to play along and create using a theme and a visual prompt.  Teacups and Tiaras was the theme this month.  I made an all-in-one greeting card/envelope combo.

If you have an envelope template that would make an awesome starting point.  I don’t have one so I cut mine out by hand to measure 10” x 7 1/4”.  Using the paper in portrait format, score in 3/4” on each side, 2 1/2” up from the bottom and 3” down from the top.  Fold along all lines and then cut out the four rectangle pieces in the corners as shown.

To create the inside greeting panel I used a Prima stencil and Versa Mark ink to give the background some texture.

While that was drying I started on the chipboard crown from Leaky Shed Studio.  These little crowns are beautiful and since they are laser cut some of them have intricate patterns.  I chose to gild the crown for this project so I chose a plain surface.  I brushed on a coat of US Art Quest Duo adhesive.  Once it was ready I brushed on the gold leaf by Gildenglitz.  It created a beautiful shiny gold finish.  I used a Leaky Shed teacup on this project, too.  It was painted with bright blue acrylic paint with a matte finish.  I wanted the only shiny thing on this project to be the crown!

I chose several images from Altered Pages collage images for both inside and outside of this project.  I’ve provided a list and links below for you.

Finally, I knew I wanted a border at the top and while I was looking for one…I found three!  All of them again from my favorite Bazzill package.  (I’m starting to run out of these so I had better get some more!)  The swirly border was cut in half to use as steam for the teacup.  All four were inked with Dark Brown Colorbox Chalk Ink.

Because the envelope is part of the card I thought a word of caution was warranted and wrote “Open Gently” across the flap.

Now, what’s a MOO, right?  For anyone who doesn’t know, they are bigger than an inchie and smaller than an ATC.  They measure in approximately at 1 1/8” by 2 3/4”.  I think they make cute little pops of color and design.  Altered Pages has a page of MOO backgrounds or you can certainly make your own.
